"I think, therefore I am "- Rene Descartes This is a quote that can have lots of different meanings. Personally, for me, I think this quote means that if you put in the time and dedication towards something, you will be successful. Is this quote a good theme for this year's language arts classes? Yes, this is a good theme for this year. One reason is because there will be many other people who will think this a great quote. Many will agree with this quote as being a good theme. This is an inspiring quote that others should have the chance to learn and read about. Blog post #2 The growth v. fixed mindset has to do with the fact that fixed mindset does not allow your brain to develop, and with the help of trends and contribution, we are able to prove that. Growth Mindset is a discovery made by professor of psychology named Carol Dweck. What she discovered is that you will be more successful when you put in effort and overcoming challenges instead of just giving up. Fixed Mindset is an unsuccessful thing for a person to have especially when you want to have a good career. “Trends is important to the growth and fixed mindset”; Cameron Lisney mentioned in the Growth Mindset Animation,”with fixed mindset you will only get to your goal and not go further that your goal, but with growth mindset you will reach your goal but you will go beyond the goal that we reached”. Cameron Lisney also mentioned in the Growth Mindset Animation,”start by listening to the fixed mindset voice and when you hear it, talk back with the growth mindset voice and if you hear “I can’t do it” add “yet”. Mindset has a contribution on how people think either fixed or growth the person has their own way of thinking. Either being fixed meaning the person lets one obstacle stop them or growth meaning the person keeps climbing the obstacle and not stopping until they make it. Sometimes mindset can have bad contributions if the person with growth mindset stops having the same motivation, they will stop having the growth mindset and turn into a fixed mindset. It is easy to get in the fixed mindset, but not so much getting out of it. That’s when there needs to be changes made like the trend icon informs. Similar to the contributions, there needs to be motivation and praise for effort in order for the fixed mindset to slowly become the growth mindset. However, if there is only praise involved without any real progress, the growth mindset process is going nowhere. Specific evidence can be found in an article called “Teachers, Parents Often Misuse Growth Mindset Research” Carol Dweck says which states, “ Praising effort alone, she says, is useless when the child is getting everything wrong and not making progress”. What the quote means is that parents need to know when and how is the right time to praise a child for effort. Mindset is important for adults and even to children this matters because sometimes people make mistakes that you can’t develop your brain. We can’t all decide which mindset we have from either fixed or growth but that’s your decision not others. The brain is an important part of the growth mindset discovery. The brain symbolizes how rapidly it grows because the brain grows bigger and bigger when you are learning just like growth mindset. Growth mindset helps develop the brain. The brain is the main part of growth mindset,so that is why we decided to make the brain the main character in this project. Not only is the brain is part of the growth mindset but growth mindset is part of the brain. The brain and growth mindset are the better together then separated. They are both part of you future and is what you depend on everyday. The arrows symbolizes a pathway with different ideas on how growth and fixed mindset are different. We choose to do arrows because we wanted to show the contributions growth and fixed mindset do. writing portfolio-october, NovemberBlog Post #4"I think, therefore I am "- Rene Descartes After reading about Rene Descartes and his philosophy about existence, I realized the actual meaning behind his quote. Descartes began questionioning about if he was real or if it was all a dream. He came to the conclusion that because he kept thinking about himself, then he must exist since thinking is an irrefutable truth. So, the quote means that because he thinks, he exists. Abstraction projectThe dot in the middle symbolizes the tree we did the latter on. The different variety of colors around the dot show the diverse environment it's in. Even though there is a lot to adapt to, the tree finds a way to be able to adapt. blog post #5Based on my knowledge of Descartes's physical views, this image can be compared to his philosophical on his existence. Descartes started questioning whether he existed or if it was all a dream or his imagination. His perception, of course, can be doubted since it was judgment, what he thought. However, he soon realized that because he was thinking about himself, then he must exist since thinking is an Irrefutable truth. The same example is shown on the picture. The figure is perceiving/thinking, which can not be doubted making it the irrefutable truth. When it sees the object, its perception can varie from a cloud to cotton candy. This shows that judgement/perception can be doubted, but thought is the irrefutable truth. Writing portfolio- December, Januarydwa essayMy score for this essay was a 5 and a 5. For me, being American is to be able to be free from prosecution and discrimination if either you have a different religion, race, or even if you look differently. For many other people though, being American can mean that you have a citizenship or your families are American. This thought, in my opinion, is pretty much invalid and does not make any sense. When the pilgrims first came to North America, they basically invaded the Native American’s land yet those Pilgrims do, indeed, have the right to consider themselves Americans or the first ever Americans. When I think about the American Life, I, sincerely, think about people who have nice, expensive cars and have well-paying jobs. Of course, this may not be true about most Americans. That is why many immigrants are not thought to live the “American Life”. Most families do not have the super nice or expensive cars that come fresh out of the dealership. We buy used cars from people our parents our friends with. “ Americans” also do not see many Mexicans or other races, working in offices, owning multiple restaurants, or other higher class jobs. Most immigrants work in construction, factories, and other jobs. So, yes, immigrants do not live the ideal “American Life”. However, should that stop them from being considered “American”?
